Choose a Source for Recent Criminal Reports

There is no single official national “recent criminal reports” feed. For recent court activity, use the court that owns the case, such as a state judiciary docket or PACER for federal cases. For your own FBI criminal-history summary, use the FBI Identity History Summary process. Label each result by source and date.

What “recent” should attach to

If you mean Use Timestamp to record
New federal court case or filing PACER Filing/docket date
New state court activity The state or local court portal Case event date and search date
Your FBI history FBI Identity History Summary Response date
Police incident material Owning law-enforcement agency Incident date and request date

Avoid false freshness

  • Do not call an old conviction “recent” just because you found it today.
  • Do not call a news article a criminal record.
  • Do not infer that a missing online docket means an event did not occur.
  • Save the official source, case or request identifier, and search date.

Build a defensible recent-record search

  1. 01
    Define the record type

Court filing, criminal-history repository, or police record.

  2. 02
    Choose the custodian

Use the court, repository, or agency that owns that record.

For a very recent federal filing, search the specific court through PACER when you know it: PACER says court-specific information is updated immediately. The nationwide PACER Case Locator index is updated daily, so use it to identify an unknown court and then check that court directly.

An FBI Identity History Summary is a processed personal response built from fingerprint submissions and information supplied by authorized agencies, not a live feed of newly reported incidents. Keep the response date with the result; it does not certify that every recent local event has reached the FBI.

The Pennsylvania judiciary link in Sources is an example of a state-court route. It covers that jurisdiction, not nationwide state-court activity.

  3. 03
    Apply a date window

Filter by filing/event date where the official system allows it.

  4. 04
    Verify identity

Use case number and additional identifiers, not name alone.

Important
Freshness is source-specific
“Recent” is a time filter, not a record type. Always state what source was checked and what date the source reflects.
